Wasps & Bees
Alright, folks, Glenn Mott here, owner of Mount Lawley Pest Control. Let’s talk about those buzzing blighters, wasps and bees. Now, I know a lot of you get them mixed up, and frankly, who can blame you? They both sting, they both fly, and they both seem to have a personal vendetta against your backyard barbecues. But there are some key differences, and knowing ’em can save you a whole lot of trouble.
Bees, Bless Their Little Cotton Socks… Mostly.
Now, bees, generally speaking, are the good guys. They’re out there pollinating our gardens, keeping our ecosystem ticking over, and, let’s be honest, giving us that sweet, sweet honey. Here at Mount Lawley Pest Control, we understand the importance of bees. We’re not in the business of wiping out entire colonies unless absolutely necessary. If you’ve got a swarm or a hive causing a genuine hazard, especially if it’s a European honey bee, we’ll work with local beekeepers to relocate them safely. We’re all about responsible pest management, you see.
Wasps, on the Other Hand…
Wasps, well, they’re a different kettle of fish. Aggressive, territorial, and those stings? Ouch. They’re the ones you really need to watch out for. Unlike bees, wasps don’t die after stinging you, meaning they can sting you multiple times. And they will. They’re scavengers, too, which means they’re attracted to your food, your bins, and just about anything else you don’t want them near.
What to Look For:
- Bees: Fuzzy bodies, often carrying pollen, and they tend to be more docile unless provoked. They’ll build hives out of wax.
- Wasps: Sleek, shiny bodies, more aggressive, and they make nests out of chewed wood pulp, like paper. Their nests can be found in the ground, in trees, under eaves, and just about anywhere else they fancy.
