As the owner of Mount Lawley Pest Control, my job keeps me busy dealing with all sorts of things. But there’s one place that always offers the perfect escape from the daily grind and a reminder of why we love living in Perth: Cottesloe Beach.
Just a short drive from Mount Lawley, “Cott” isn’t just a beach; it’s a Western Australian icon. Its pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, and the gentle slope of the foreshore make it one of the most beloved swimming spots in the country. The Indian Ocean’s brilliant blue, stretching out to the horizon, is a sight you never get tired of.
The atmosphere here is what makes it so special. Generations of locals have spent their summers on the grassy terraces under the shade of the Norfolk Pines, and it’s still the best place in the world for a picnic. The sound of families laughing, the smell of fish and chips from the local eateries, and the gentle roar of the waves create a feeling of pure, simple joy.
Cottesloe is also a place of history and culture. The elegant Indiana Tea House, with its distinctive architecture, is a landmark known to all. And every March, the beach is transformed into a spectacular outdoor gallery for the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, attracting artists and visitors from all over the world. It’s a brilliant event that showcases the creative side of our city.
Whether you’re there for a morning swim, a leisurely lunch at one of the cafes and restaurants along Marine Parade, or to watch the famous sunset over the Indian Ocean, Cottesloe Beach is a place that truly captures the essence of Perth. It’s a reminder of the simple beauty right on our doorstep and a true source of pride for our community.
